Job Description

We have an openings for a Technical Services Manager for our client, a manufacturer and supplier of microbial enzymes for the Food industry, located in Elgin, IL.  We are seeking an experienced (10 Years) technical food scientist who has a PhD related food scientific discipline and experience in new product development AND patent filing. 


Summary:

  1. Responsible for overseeing laboratory work leading to increased sales and profit. 
  2. Responsible for overall management of the Technical Services department and technical advisor to Amano personnel. 
  3. Responsible for maximizing the performance and productivity of the department.
  4. Follows GMP and SQF requirements through the company’s quality management system.


Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Contributes to the company’s sales and profit through the department activities.
  1. Develops new applications and improves applications to develop new sales and maintain existing sales.
  2. Pursues filing a patent for new or improved applications utilizing legal counsel for assistance.
  3. Supports Technical Sales Department to develop new sales and maintain existing sales by providing technical service, knowledge and experience.
  1. Directs and coordinates department activities to maximize the performance and productivity of the department while communicating with other departments.
  2. Provides technical and analytical service to potential and existing customers leading to new business and maintain current business.
  3. Prepares and presents technical presentations to potential and existing customers to promote sales and evaluates the possibility of joint customer and Amano research projects.
  4. Designs and registers new products and supports new product development and commercialization at AEU.
  5. Modifies and improves existing products when needed utilizing experience and understanding of products.
  6. Provides knowledge, support, and guidance to help solve blending issues that arise in Production.
  7. Coordinates joint projects with Amano Japan R&D group through presentations/meetings, teleconferences and written reports.
  8. Provides advice to President and all company managers on technical issues as required.
  9. Submits call report to the supervisor within 48 hours after visiting customer.
  10. Submits monthly report to the supervisor by the 25th day of the next month.
  11. Understands the overall company history, goals and priorities to be an effective representative of the company when visiting potential and existing customers.
  12. Makes and monitors department budgets and cost controls.
  13. Implements 5S Pillars within workplace.
  14. Promotes a cooperative and constructive atmosphere.
  15. Responsible for Food Safety and reporting any Food Safety related issues to the direct supervisor and/or a member of the Food Safety Management Team.
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Food Safety Reporting Responsibilities:

  1. Responsibility to report any and all food safety problems or concerns to the proper personnel authorized to initiate action.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  1. Develops and maintains an effective organization through the selection, training, compensation, motivation, termination and review of all supervised employees.
  1. Provides guidance, on the job training and direction to the technical services staff to assist in their professional development.

Job Requirements

Skills:

Reasoning Ability:  Must demonstrate an ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems at the highest level.


Language Skills:  Must demonstrate an ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents; must demonstrate an ability to prepare articles and presentations in a highly effective and persuasive manner.  Must demonstrate an ability to orally communicate ideas and concepts in a logical, persuasive manner and show respect for the listeners’ point of view and comments.


Organizational and Time Management Skills: Must demonstrate organizational and time management skills to a very high level in order to optimally balance hands-on research at the bench with other essential tasks.



Education/Experience:

PhD in scientific discipline is required
