Job Description

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position will be responsible for managing a geographical area of the network and is currently broken into two Regions: Northern Region Planner and Southern Region Planner. The Northern Region Planner is responsible for all Outbound Pick-ups, corresponding deliveries and relays occurring with the following states; CN, ME, NH,VT, MA, CT, and NY. The Southern Region Planner is responsible for all Outbound Pick-ups, corresponding deliveries and relays occurring within the following states; NJ, PA, DE, MD, and VA. 

Cost & Utilization

1) Manage deadhead. By control and minimizing empty miles, while offering both short-term and long-term solutions where deadhead is out of variance.

2) Manage trailer pools by maintaining and monitor spotted trailers, rotating trailers and keeping dwell times under 4 days by working with internal and external customers. Utilize equipment software reporting to control and monitor trailer pool allocation and utilization. Work with Maintenance, Sales and Customer Service to manage this process.

3) Control relays.

4) Utilize operating software to match and assign freight to inbound equipment

5) Organize, plan and implement transportation solutions for assigned customers that utilize the best cost option to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction.

6) Assess freight mix in your responsible area by discussing both freight and capacity needs with Customer Service Reps and Driver Managers. As our network changes, proactively communicate with all parties involved to provide the best utilization option for each power unit.

7) Communication with external Sales team, Customer Service and Ops Manager, to improve freight density within planning region.

8) Work with fellow Load Planners and Customer Service Reps to keep network balanced in areas of crossover locations. 9) Review planning metrics for assigned area with management for continuous improvement. Through the use of operating reports. 10) Solicit Freight as necessary through direct contact or communicating through sales or customer service.

11) Insure maintenance requirements for tractors and trailers are performed timely and efficiently

SERVICE

1) The goal of the Load Planner is to ensure recommended capacity meets or exceeds the customer's original expectation for pick-up and delivery. Proactively communicate potential service issues to Customer Service immediately. Strive to maintain goal of 98% on-time.

2) Notify customer and/or customer service while coordinating with Driver Managers to resolve driver issues in route to prevent service failure to the customer.

3) Build Trips, Rebuild Trips, and locate equipment to prevent service failure or minimize service failure impact. Insure that the planning functions are completed timely to allow advisement process between driver managers and drivers to flow efficiently. 4) Identify and resolve delivery and scheduling issues through timely communication with customers and/or customer service.

5) Maintain an organized log of all correspondence via email, voicemail, and other methods used by the customer or co-worker.

6) Monitor assigned power units for driver load confirmations. React accordingly with follow-up or re-plans to protect on-time service.

Retention

1) Coordinating with Driver Managers and drivers to insure all loads are matched and acknowledged to maximize efficiency

2) Strive to meet driver/equipment routing needs, whenever possible.

4) Work with Driver Managers in the areas of revenue per day per truck, Home Time, Training, maintenance requirements, etc.

Safety

1) Plan Trips in accordance DOT hours of service and advise customer and/or customer service when capacity doesn't meet appointment schedules.

2) In cooperation with Driver Manager and Safety Department insure all driver training is completed timely and efficiently

Job Requirements

Qualifications for this positions are; being a self-starter, ability to work in a fast paced environment under stressful situations, Experience prioritizing matters, in a deadline driven environment. Ability to multi task possessing professional communication, customer service, and organization skills. The Load Planner is an essential part of GHI's asset based business.
